The client required a maximum-size physical model of an industrial reactor for an upcoming event with only a strict 48-hour deadline. We were provided with just a single reference photograph to work from. Because physical 3D printing times cannot be arbitrarily accelerated, the primary hurdle was executing the CAD design instantly and flawlessly managing the production schedule to ensure the print finished in time.

We reverse-engineered the reactor from the provided photograph into a fully realized 3D CAD model. By optimizing the design for fast manufacturing without compromising on the requested maximum scale, we successfully printed and delivered the final model just one hour before the client's event commenced.

The Artyla team had already completed the 3D designs for their sculptures but needed a reliable manufacturing partner. The main obstacle was the high cost of resin printing for solid objects of that size; we needed to find an engineering workaround to drastically reduce the material cost per unit while maintaining the premium weight and feel of the final product.

We implemented a Design for Manufacturing (DFM) approach by re-engineering the digital models to be completely hollow, significantly cutting down the resin volume and printing costs. After printing, we filled the hollow cavities with Plaster of Paris for structural integrity and weight, and meticulously sealed the models to deliver a high-quality, cost-effective final product.
